Augustine's Confessions

Augustine’s Confessions

About the Course

This course is designed to guide readers who want to engage with the text of Augustine’s Confessions in a deep and meaningful way by themselves or in a group setting. Readers should use a downloadable or printed version of Confessions as a companion to the text of this course. The course begins with introductory material on literature in general and the book as a whole before proceeding into the text of the work. Each chapter contains a brief summary, commentary, and a section for reflection and questions. Additional notes from the author are also available in an expandable section at the end of each chapter. A glossary of terms and additional secondary sources are available in the final section of this course.

The writer of this course, which is in the public domain courtesy of The Gospel Coalition (https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/about/), is Dr. Leland Ryken, professor of English emeritus at Wheaton College, Illinois, and literary stylist for the ESV translation of the Bible (Crossway, 2001).
